Artist-Parents have long struggled with balancing time management, space restrictions; and resources for maintaining a career and family life. Lucid Dreams, opening at The Shirley Project Space, honors the radical vision that Interlude Residency has of carving out space for art-making and reflection alongside community –while also receiving support for families. Established in the Hudson Valley in 2019 by Elsie Kagan and Carl Robichaud, Interlude is among the first artist residencies in this country, and the only one in the Northeast to date, to manifest what is now a widespread, vital conversation in the art world on how to support artist-parents. Now, five years later, a community grows and thrives. To date, well over 50 artists have benefited from this initiative.

Featuring 10 artists selected by curator Regine Basha, a longtime Interlude Juror, Lucid Dreams will explore aspects of dream logic, psychedelia, and perceptual play that suggest a visionary way of perceiving both outer and inner worlds. Sales of works will partially support Interlude Residency.
